MEETING WITH NEW MINISTER OF CHILD AND YOUTH SERVICES

As part of our ongoing efforts to highlight the work of foster parents, Janet Ryan-Newell, Executive Director of Crossroads, met with the new Minister of Children and Youth Services, Yvonne Fritz. This meeting is significant as this Provincial Department is responsible for children in care. Janet initiated this meeting for a coalition of Foster Care Agencies, which Crossroads is a part of. The meeting was a postive start to a new relationship between agencies and the government. We look forward to future developments in this area.

FOSTER PARENT BANQUET - March 5, 2010  "Real Life Heroes"

Crossroads Annual Foster Parent Appreciation and Awards banquet was held on Friday March 5, 2010 at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton.  It was an event to remember as we celebrated "True Heroes": our Foster Parents. We were honoured by the attendance of all our guests who came to pay tribute to our families. We want to give special thanks to Adrian LaChance and his yellow ribbon dancers as well as Alvin Law, who shared with us the journey of their lives and spoke of the resilience and stamina it takes to get through this life.

Mayor Mandel and his wife Lynn attended, as did MLA's Naresh Bhardwaj, David Xiao, Doug Elniski, and George Rogers. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Jason Goss from the Edmonton Eskimos, two Chief Firefighters, and two Master Corporals of the Canadian Armed Forces from CFB Edmonton to our banquet.

The primary objective of our banquet and awards night is to highlight the positive face of fostering. The event recognizes the outstanding contributions made by our foster parents, who strive to improve the lives of the children in their care.
