Hiring Respite Workers for Children and Youth

Crossroads Family Services is currently seeking individuals to provide contracted hourly respite relief for families with children and youth who have behavioural and/or physical challenges.  

Locations: The Respite provider will provide care in the client’s home, and/or in the community, in Edmonton and the surrounding area. 

Hours:  Respite positions are part-time. Crossroads will match providers with clients in order to fit schedules. Respite is needed at various times - mornings, days, evenings, and weekends.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure the well-being and safety of clients
  • Supervision and care for children and youth
  • Provide companionship
  • Administer personal and bedside care
  • Administer medications
  • Accountable to Crossroads Respite Supervisor (some reporting required)
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrates effective listening and interpersonal skills
  • Great planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with children with physical or behavioural disabilities
  • Ability to be supportive of the client’s family
  • Planning and taking part in recreational activities with the children
Education 
  • High School 
  • Some Secondary Education – college, CEGEP, vocational, technical training, or University
Job Requirements
  • Criminal Record Check/ Child Welfare Check/First Aid Certificate
  • Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • Emergency First Aid/Level C CPR
